Reno, Nevada — A spirit of community, craftsmanship, and holiday pride is taking root in northern Nevada as Schussboom Brewing Company announces its partnership as a Gold Sponsor for this year’s U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree. The brewery’s commitment will help support the tree’s historic journey from Nevada’s own forests to the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C.
The 2025 U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree, affectionately known as “The People’s Tree,” will be harvested from the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest later this month. This year’s event carries extra meaning for Nevadans, as it marks the first time in over a decade that the state has had the honor of providing the nation’s official Christmas tree.
In collaboration with the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Forest Service and the Society of American Foresters, Schussboom Brewing’s sponsorship highlights the importance of environmental stewardship, local business support, and the shared celebration of America’s natural beauty. The company’s involvement ensures that the tree’s cross-country trip will include stops in multiple states, each hosting festive community celebrations.
To commemorate this special occasion, Schussboom Brewing has unveiled three limited-edition beers inspired by Nevada’s culture, history, and natural landscape. Each brew represents a tribute to the state’s identity and the legacy of “The People’s Tree.” The first, “Abies Magnifica,” is a hoppy red ale crafted with foraged red fir tips, directly referencing the tree’s species. The second, “Comstock Lode,” is a hazy IPA celebrating Nevada’s rich mining heritage and the legendary gold and silver strikes of Virginia City. Finally, “Ghost of Christmas Pils” pays homage to the spirited pioneers and legends of the Wild West with a crisp Bavarian-style pilsner.
All three commemorative beers will be available in cans and on tap at Schussboom Brewing, allowing locals and visitors alike to raise a glass to the season and to Nevada’s contribution to a national tradition. Each can design will feature artwork inspired by the state’s mountains, forests, and history — a nod to the pride that fuels Nevada’s community spirit.
The first public viewing of the red fir tree will take place on Saturday, October 25, at Mount Rose Ski Tahoe from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. The event will offer attendees a chance to see the majestic tree before it begins its journey eastward. Following the viewing, Schussboom Brewing will host an afterparty at its Reno location at 6:00 p.m., featuring live music, the unveiling of the special-edition beers, and opportunities for guests to sign the official banner accompanying the tree to Washington, D.C.
As the tree makes its way across the country, it will stop in dozens of communities for public celebrations. Each stop will feature performances, ornament-making events, and family-friendly festivities that reflect the diverse cultures and traditions of the American people.
When the tree finally arrives in Washington, D.C., it will be adorned with thousands of handmade ornaments created by Nevada residents, representing the heart and creativity of the state. The grand lighting ceremony on the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol will take place in late November, ushering in the holiday season for the nation.
Local leaders and business owners have praised Schussboom Brewing’s sponsorship as a powerful example of community collaboration. By blending artistry, craftsmanship, and celebration, the company has created a bridge between Nevada’s heritage and a beloved national tradition.
As the lights of the Capitol tree shine over Washington this December, they will also reflect the pride of Nevadans — a testament to the beauty of their forests, the warmth of their communities, and the enduring joy of the season.
