MIFFLIN COUNTY, Pa. – Authorities Investigating Route 35 Crash That Resulted in One Fatality and Multiple Injuries
MIFFLIN COUNTY, Pa. – Authorities are investigating a serious crash on Route 35 that claimed one life and left another passenger with severe injuries. The incident occurred when a van carrying four individuals lost control while navigating a curve, causing it to cross into oncoming lanes before striking two curbs and colliding with a guardrail.
Emergency crews arrived quickly to find a 2007 Chevrolet Express van heavily damaged and crumpled against the barrier. First responders worked to provide immediate medical assistance to all occupants. One individual was pronounced deceased at the scene, while another was airlifted to a nearby trauma center with critical injuries. The two remaining passengers were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
According to initial reports, investigators believe the driver may have been traveling too fast for the curve, which contributed to the loss of control. Skid marks and debris along the roadway are being examined to better understand the vehicle’s trajectory before impact. Authorities have not released the names of the individuals involved pending notification of their families.
The crash occurred in a section of Route 35 known for sharp curves and limited visibility, prompting renewed discussion about road safety in the area. Local residents say the stretch has seen multiple accidents over the years, and some are calling for improved signage or guardrail upgrades to prevent similar incidents.
Firefighters and law enforcement personnel worked for hours to secure the scene, direct traffic, and clear debris from the roadway. Traffic in both directions was temporarily halted, causing significant delays for motorists. Once the wreckage was removed, crews inspected the guardrail to ensure it remained structurally sound.
The Pennsylvania State Police are leading the investigation, which will include vehicle inspections and toxicology testing as standard procedure in fatal crashes. Authorities have not indicated whether weather or road conditions played a role in the incident but confirmed that the roadway was dry at the time.
Community members have expressed condolences to the victims’ families, with several local organizations offering support services. Mental health professionals have made themselves available to anyone affected by the tragedy, including witnesses and emergency personnel.
Safety officials are urging drivers to approach curves with caution, maintain safe speeds, and remain attentive at all times. They emphasize that even familiar roads can pose risks when speed limits and road conditions are not respected.
As the investigation continues, authorities are asking anyone who witnessed the crash or has dash camera footage to contact the Pennsylvania State Police. They believe that additional perspectives could help piece together the exact sequence of events leading up to the collision.
