Maui Tragedy as 18-Year-Old Falls from Waterfall Along Hana Highway During Hike with Friends
MAUI, HI — An 18-year-old man from Makawao, Robert Carvalho, lost his life on Sunday afternoon after a tragic fall from a waterfall along the iconic Hana Highway, authorities confirmed. The incident occurred near mile marker 6, a well-known yet treacherous hiking area that attracts many adventure seekers each year.
Carvalho had been hiking with a group of friends when the accident happened. According to a statement from the Maui Police Department, the young man lost his balance while near the edge of a waterfall and fell approximately 120 feet to the base below. The group immediately called for emergency assistance after witnessing the fall.
