Hobe Sound, Florida: Two Brothers Arrested After Violent Gas Station Assault That Injured 61-Year-Old Man
HOBE SOUND, Fla. — A disturbing incident at a local gas station in Hobe Sound has resulted in the arrest of two brothers accused of severely assaulting a 61-year-old man in front of his wife and young grandchildren. The attack occurred at a Cumberland Farms station and has sparked community outrage and a full investigation by local law enforcement.
The Martin County Sheriff’s Office reported that deputies were dispatched to the scene following a report of an assault involving a blunt object. When authorities arrived, they found the victim with significant injuries allegedly inflicted using a rubber mallet. The attack was witnessed by several bystanders, including the man’s own family, who were visibly shaken.
The situation escalated into a tense standoff lasting more than three hours when deputies attempted to apprehend 49-year-old Shane Blois, one of the two men believed to be responsible for the assault. Law enforcement surrounded a location where he had barricaded himself, eventually persuading him to surrender peacefully without further incident.
Shortly before or during the standoff, deputies also located and arrested Shane’s brother, Erick Blois, during a traffic stop. He was taken into custody without resistance. Both men now face serious felony charges related to the battery of the 61-year-old victim, whose identity has not been released by authorities at this time.
The motive behind the attack has not yet been disclosed, and it remains unclear whether the parties involved had any prior relationship or altercation before the incident occurred. Detectives are reviewing surveillance footage and interviewing witnesses to determine how the confrontation began and whether it was premeditated or spontaneous.
Emergency medical personnel arrived quickly and treated the victim at the scene before transporting him to a nearby hospital for further evaluation. His current condition has not been made public, but officials confirmed that his injuries were significant. The emotional trauma to his family, especially the children who witnessed the attack, has also drawn public concern.
In a public statement, the Martin County Sheriff’s Office commended the swift work of its deputies and the peaceful resolution of the standoff. They also urged the community to remain vigilant and report any future incidents of violence or suspicious activity immediately.
Local residents and community leaders expressed shock at the brutality of the incident, especially as it occurred in a public place and during daylight hours. Many have called for increased safety and security measures at local businesses, including more frequent patrols and enhanced surveillance systems.
The investigation remains active, with both suspects being held in custody while formal charges are filed. Authorities continue to gather evidence and have asked anyone with additional information to come forward. The community awaits further updates as the legal process unfolds.
