Duncan, BC – RCMP Investigating Suspected Murder-Suicide Following Tragic Incident in Residential Area

DUNCAN, BC — The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) are investigating a suspected murder-suicide that occurred on Monday, September 22, 2025, in a residential area of Duncan, British Columbia. The incident has left the local community in shock and mourning.

At approximately 3:00 PM, RCMP officers responded to a call reporting a disturbance at a home on Maple Bay Road. Upon arrival, they discovered two individuals deceased inside the residence. Preliminary investigations suggest that one individual fatally shot the other before taking their own life.

The victims, both adults, have been identified as a 35-year-old woman and her 40-year-old partner. Due to privacy laws, their names are being withheld pending notification of next of kin. The couple had been residing in Duncan for several years and were known to be in a long-term relationship.

The RCMP’s Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit (VIIMCU) has taken over the investigation. They are working to determine the circumstances leading up to the tragic event. At this time, there is no indication that there are any outstanding suspects or threats to public safety.

Neighbors described the couple as quiet and private, with little interaction with the community. One neighbor mentioned, “They kept to themselves mostly, so this is a real shock to all of us.” Another neighbor expressed disbelief, stating, “You never expect something like this to happen so close to home.”

The RCMP has urged anyone with information related to the incident to come forward. They are particularly interested in speaking with individuals who may have seen or heard anything unusual in the area around the time of the incident.

In the wake of the tragedy, local support services have been mobilized to assist those affected. The Cowichan Valley Victim Services is offering counseling and support to the families and friends of the victims, as well as to the community members who may be struggling with the news.

The Cowichan Valley School District has also been notified, as the couple had children who attend local schools. Counselors will be available at the schools to support students and staff during this difficult time.

This incident has raised concerns about domestic violence in the community. Local organizations are calling for increased awareness and resources to support individuals in abusive relationships. “We need to do more to educate and support those who are at risk,” said a representative from the Cowichan Women’s Shelter.

The RCMP has assured the public that they are committed to thoroughly investigating the incident and will provide updates as more information becomes available. In the meantime, they are encouraging anyone in need of support to reach out to local services and resources.

As the investigation continues, the community of Duncan remains united in grief and support for those affected by this tragic event. Residents are coming together to offer condolences and assistance to the families involved.

The RCMP extends its deepest sympathies to the families and loved ones of the victims. They are dedicated to ensuring justice and providing support to the community during this challenging time.
