Chicago Shooting Spree: Three Dead, Multiple Injured Across Roseland, Wicker Park, and Austin Neighborhoods
Chicago authorities are investigating a devastating shooting spree that unfolded across three neighborhoods—Roseland, Wicker Park, and Austin—late Saturday evening, leaving three people dead and several others injured. Among those lost is 28-year-old Marcus Lewis of Roseland, 35-year-old Jasmine Torres of Wicker Park, and 41-year-old Samuel Green of Austin. The incidents occurred over a span of approximately three hours, sparking panic and chaos in the affected communities.
Police say the spree began around 8:15 p.m. in Roseland when Marcus Lewis was struck while walking near the intersection of 111th Street and Michigan Avenue. Witnesses reported hearing multiple gunshots and immediately calling 911. First responders arrived within minutes, providing medical assistance and securing the scene. Despite rapid intervention, Lewis succumbed to his injuries. Police are reviewing surveillance footage and eyewitness accounts to identify the perpetrator.
Just over an hour later, the violence continued in Wicker Park, where Jasmine Torres was struck near North Milwaukee Avenue. Authorities say Torres was leaving a restaurant when gunfire erupted nearby. Emergency medical teams transported her to a local hospital, but she later succumbed to her injuries. Several bystanders were also treated for non-life-threatening injuries. The Chicago Police Department (CPD) confirmed that the shooter is believed to have moved between neighborhoods during the spree.
The final incident occurred in Austin around 10:30 p.m., resulting in the death of Samuel Green. Green, a longtime community member, was walking home from a grocery store when he was caught in crossfire. Several others sustained injuries, including two teenagers and an adult male. Police have stated that at least one suspect is in custody, though the investigation into potential accomplices and motive is ongoing.
CPD officials held a press briefing on Sunday morning, expressing condolences to the families of the deceased and urging witnesses to come forward with any information. “These acts of violence are deeply troubling,” said Police Superintendent David Brown. “We are committed to holding the responsible parties accountable and ensuring our neighborhoods are safe.”
Residents across the three affected neighborhoods described a night of terror and fear. Social media posts from witnesses showed images of emergency vehicles, cordoned-off streets, and grieving friends and family. Community leaders have called for increased safety measures and support for victims, highlighting the need for outreach programs to address gun violence in the city.
The investigation is ongoing, with detectives examining surveillance footage, forensic evidence, and witness statements to determine whether the shootings were connected or the result of a single orchestrated spree. Officials also confirmed that law enforcement is coordinating with local hospitals to document all injuries and provide assistance to those affected.
As Chicago grapples with yet another episode of gun violence, authorities emphasize the importance of community vigilance and cooperation with law enforcement. The families of Marcus Lewis, Jasmine Torres, and Samuel Green are receiving support from local organizations, while police continue to search for leads that could prevent further tragedies in Roseland, Wicker Park, and Austin.
