Officials confirmed the victim as 28-year-old Darrien Rakwon Duck, a resident of Chesapeake, whose passing has left family and friends devastated.
The incident occurred shortly before 2:40 a.m. at the intersection of Holly Cove Drive and Schooner Trail, a residential neighborhood comprised mainly of townhomes located off Airline Boulevard near Southwestern Park. Known for its generally quiet environment, the community was suddenly transformed into an active crime scene in the early morning hours.
Police stated that officers were dispatched following reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, they located Duck at the scene, suffering from gunshot wounds. Emergency medical teams immediately attempted life-saving measures, but he was pronounced deceased.
While investigators were still processing the scene, authorities received additional reports of two more individuals connected to the incident. Both victims had arrived separately at local hospitals with injuries related to the shooting. Officials said their injuries were not believed to be life-threatening, but they are being closely monitored by medical staff.
Detectives began a thorough investigation, examining the area for physical evidence and speaking with potential witnesses. Crime scene technicians documented shell casings, inspected surrounding properties for possible damage, and gathered security footage from nearby homes and businesses.
So far, police have not announced any arrests or named any suspects. Investigators have not yet determined a motive and are urging members of the public who may have relevant information to come forward. Chesapeake Police have emphasized that community assistance is often crucial in solving cases of this nature.
Neighbors described hearing multiple gunshots in quick succession, followed by the sound of people running. Some residents remained inside their homes, while others cautiously looked outside to see police and emergency vehicles arriving on the scene. The early morning disturbance has left many unsettled, particularly given the area’s reputation for being peaceful.
