Daviess County Central Dispatch received reports of the collision around 4:41 p.m. Emergency responders were promptly dispatched to the scene to assist those involved and secure the area. The intersection, a busy crossroad in the county, was temporarily closed as first responders worked to manage the incident.

Initial investigation reveals that a 44-year-old woman from Loogootee was driving a 2014 Ford Edge eastbound on US 50 when the accident occurred. At the same time, a 37-year-old man from Huntingburg was operating a 2015 FedEx truck traveling southbound on State Road 257. Both vehicles collided within the intersection.

Also involved was a 22-year-old man from Olney, Illinois, riding a 2023 Honda moped. He was stationary at the south side of the intersection on State Road 257, waiting to proceed northbound when the crash took place. The impact caused the FedEx truck to veer off course, striking the moped rider.

The collision resulted in the moped rider being ejected from his vehicle due to the force of the impact. Emergency medical services arrived quickly to provide care, but despite their efforts, the rider sustained fatal injuries. Authorities have withheld the name of the victim at this time, respecting the privacy of the family.

Investigators from the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office and other agencies remain at the scene and are conducting a thorough examination of the circumstances leading up to the crash. They are reviewing witness statements, vehicle positions, and other evidence to determine contributing factors.
