Nashua, New Hampshire wedding shooting leaves one dead, several injured as suspect Hunter Nadeau taken

Nashua, New Hampshire – Tragedy struck a wedding celebration at the Sky Meadow Country Club on Saturday night when an armed gunman opened fire, leaving one guest dead and multiple others injured. The horrific attack occurred just as the bride and groom were preparing for their first dance, turning what should have been a joyous occasion into a scene of chaos and fear.

Authorities quickly identified the suspect as 23-year-old Hunter Nadeau, who was apprehended shortly after the shooting. Nadeau now faces a murder charge for the fatality and is expected to be charged with additional offenses related to the injured guests. He is scheduled for arraignment at the Ninth Circuit Court in Nashua on Monday.

Witnesses reported that the suspect entered the reception wearing a mask, raised his middle finger toward attendees, and shouted phrases including “Free Palestine” and “the children are safe” before opening fire. The sudden attack sent guests scrambling for cover, creating a panic-filled environment that authorities are now investigating.

The victim of the shooting has been identified as 59-year-old Robert Steven DeCesare, who was fatally shot during the incident. Witnesses recounted hearing as many as six gunshots while trying to seek safety. Family members described the harrowing moments as they attempted to protect themselves and locate loved ones amid the chaos.

Tom Bartelson, the groom’s uncle, described the scene: “We were getting together for a dance for the bride and groom and then all chaos went off. We heard about six shots, and everybody ducked for cover. Next thing you know, we’re rushed into safe spots.” His testimony underscores the sudden and terrifying nature of the attack.

At least six other guests were hospitalized due to injuries sustained while fleeing the scene. Authorities confirmed that none of the injuries were life-threatening, though the psychological trauma for those involved will likely be significant. Medical personnel treated the victims quickly, providing care at nearby hospitals.

Initial reports suggested there may have been two shooters, prompting an extensive manhunt extending into southern New Hampshire and northern Massachusetts. However, investigators later confirmed that Nadeau acted alone, citing video surveillance and other evidence collected from the venue.

Family members faced a nightmare trying to locate loved ones in the immediate aftermath. Evie O’Rourke, mother of the victim, described her frantic search for her son: “We don’t know where he is. He went down. My daughter-in-law and granddaughter escaped … They saw my son go down and they saw blood, and we can’t find him.”

Nashua Mayor Jim Donchess condemned the attack, praising the rapid response of local police officers who secured the scene and assisted guests in evacuating safely. Authorities continue to investigate the motive behind the shooting and are coordinating with state and federal agencies to ensure all evidence is collected.

The tragic events at the Sky Meadow Country Club have left the Nashua community in shock. While one life was lost and several were injured, the quick action of law enforcement and first responders helped prevent further harm. The city now grapples with the emotional aftermath of a celebration that turned into violence, as families mourn, heal, and seek answers about the tragedy.
